How to manage cricket rain targets and results

Review the calculation method, confirm revised allocations or official targets, and record a rain decision with the correct result.

1Open Rain and targetConfirm scoring control, then open Rain and target from the active innings.
Before opening
For an unclaimed practice match, open Scoring control and choose Start scoring on this device. On mobile, use Match actions to reach Scoring control. Wait for the panel to close, reopen it and confirm This device controls scoring and Synced. Close the panel before continuing. Use the assigned scoring device and check the innings, runs, wickets, and overs. Rain adjustments are available during the first two innings. Finish an innings that has already reached its result before attempting a new adjustment.
Officials decide
Agree the interruption decision and the method approved for this match with officials before saving. An automatic estimate can differ from official DLS.
After this step
Scoring control confirms this device owns the match and is synced before Rain and revised target opens.
2Choose the calculation methodChoose the method approved for the match and understand where its values come from.
Calculation method
The available methods have different inputs.
D/L Standard — The automatic option uses the public Standard tables locally when the wicket limits support it. The estimated par updates after each legal ball and wicket.
Local D/L estimate — For supported smaller squads, the automatic option adapts the public table to each side's available wickets. Officials may use different official DLS values.
Official DLS — Choose confirmed values and enter the Winning target approved by officials. Add the current official Par at this point when needed.
Custom competition values — Enter the target and current par agreed under the competition's own rules.
Automatic method unavailable — Automatic calculations require known wicket limits, six-ball overs, and no more than 50 overs per innings. Use approved official or custom values when the automatic option is disabled.

Choose the method approved for the match and understand where its values come from.
3Choose whether play resumes or endsChoose Play decision before editing the applicable allocation or result fields.
Play decision
Select the actual official decision.
Resume play — Enter Revised innings allocation using Whole overs and Extra balls. The allocation must leave at least one further legal ball and must satisfy the match's limits.
End first innings — This option appears in the first innings. It closes the innings at the current legal-ball count and begins the innings break.
End match due to rain — This ends the match using the minimum-play and par rules. Review the proposed result before confirming.
Whole overs and Extra balls — Enter whole numbers. Extra balls must be fewer than the configured balls per over. These are separate fields, so do not type a decimal overs value into Whole overs.

Choose Play decision before editing the applicable allocation or result fields.
4Enter the approved target and competition valuesIn a chase, review the Winning target and Par at this point together with Competition options.
Official and custom values
These fields appear in the second innings for confirmed-value methods.
Winning target — Enter the runs required to win under the approved decision. Do not substitute the par score for the winning target.
Par at this point — Enter the official or agreed par for the current overs and wickets. A fresh value is needed when either changes.
Optional par while resuming — You can omit par where the form permits it, but a valid current par is required to end an eligible chase with a rain result.
Target pending — If the scoring page says to confirm the revised winning target, open Rain and target and save the approved target before another delivery.
Competition options
Expand this section to review the competition-specific assumptions.
Minimum for a rain result — Set the minimum play using Whole overs and Extra balls according to the competition.
Competition 50 over average — For automatic methods, the default is 245. Change it only when the competition specifies another average.
Reason for adjustment — For automatic methods, explain the interruption in the reason field.
Official source or agreed rule — For confirmed methods, record the source or agreed competition decision. Supply a meaningful reason of 3 through 160 characters.
After this step
In a chase, review the Winning target and Par at this point together with Competition options.
5Review the proposed outcome and confirm officials approved itRead Adjustment preview before choosing Save adjustment or Confirm decision.
Preview outcomes
Check that the score and current interruption agree with the proposed outcome.
Resume play — The preview shows the confirmed allocation and any winning target. Saving keeps the recorded deliveries.
First innings ends — The preview explains that the innings break begins.
No result — Ending in the first innings, or before the required minimum in the chase, produces the no-result branch.
Match tied — For an eligible chase ending due to rain, a score equal to the current par produces a tied result.
Batting or bowling side wins — An eligible score above or below the current par produces the corresponding runs result. Review the margin displayed.
Official confirmation
Confirmed-value methods and every innings-ending or match-ending decision require the officials-approval checkbox. Read whether it confirms values or the decision and result. Changing a field clears the confirmation.
Score changed
If the score changes while the dialog is open, the form clears the confirmation and par and asks for review again. Recheck all affected values before saving.
After this step
Read Adjustment preview before choosing Save adjustment or Confirm decision.
6Save and verify the new scoring stateChoose Save adjustment for resumed play or Confirm decision when ending play.
Finish safely
Wait through Saving. The dialog closes only when the save succeeds.
Resume after saving — Check the revised allocation and target on the scoring page before the next ball.
End innings or match — Check the innings break or final result and its rain summary. Recorded deliveries remain in history.
Invalid or failed adjustment — Read the error, correct the official inputs, and retry. A disabled save button means required values or confirmation are still missing.
Cancel — Choose Cancel or close the dialog before saving to leave the current scoring decision unchanged.
After this step
Choose Save adjustment for resumed play or Confirm decision when ending play.
