How to create a private Fantasy contest

1Open contest creationOpen Fantasy dashboard, choose Contests, then open the private-contest creator.
Private contest actions
Create starts a new contest from your own eligible saved team. Join is only for entering an existing contest with its invite code.
Create: Choose your exact saved team, enter a name and capacity, and let the app generate the invite code.
Join: Use a host's ten-character invite code with one of your own saved teams in the same Fantasy scope.
Eligibility first
The Create form opens in the player workspace, but submission requires an eligible saved team before the Fantasy scope locks.

The create-private-contest form is visible.
2Choose the team and detailsSelect the exact saved team, then enter the contest name and capacity.
Fantasy team
Required. The selected saved team fixes the contest's tournament or exact match scope and becomes the creator's entry.
Tournament team: Creates a tournament-wide contest when the saved team has no match ID and the player is eligible for that tournament.
Scheduled match team: Creates a contest for that exact tournament fixture; another fixture's saved team cannot be substituted later.
Individual-match team: Creates an exact-match contest only when the player remains a member of that individual match.
Contest name
Required. After trimming spaces, the name must contain 2 to 80 characters. Do not put a phone number, email, or private identity in it.
Maximum entries
Required. Choose from 2 to 1,000 entries. The creator is added immediately, so a capacity of four leaves three more places.
Why creation can stop
The server repeats every important check before saving.
Invalid details: The name is outside 2 to 80 characters, or capacity is outside 2 to 1,000.
Team or scope mismatch: The team is not owned by the player, has no valid eligible scope, or an individual-match team is not tied to its exact match.
Locked: The relevant Fantasy scope has locked, scoring has started, or the match start time has passed.
Disabled or not eligible: Fantasy is off for the scope, the tournament is legacy-only, or the player no longer has the required eligibility.
After this step
The synthetic saved team, contest name, and four-player capacity are selected.
3Create the contestCreate the contest and let the app generate its synthetic invite code.
Create and get invite code
The server rechecks the selected team, eligibility, scope lock, name, and capacity before creating the contest and first entry.
Safe retry
This form carries a submission ID. After a successful creation, an exact replay returns the original result instead of creating a duplicate; reusing that successful ID with changed details is rejected.
Generated code
The code is a unique ten-character uppercase letter-and-number value generated inside the same atomic transaction and exposed only after the save succeeds. The tutorial uses only isolated synthetic data.
After this step
The create request starts with one idempotent submission and disables the button while it is working.
4Review the inviteThe highlighted contest card contains the generated synthetic invite code.
Invite code
Select the code button to copy it. Treat production invite codes as private access details and share them only with intended players; this recording shows synthetic data only.
Entry count
The first number is the current number of entered teams and the second is the chosen capacity. The creator's saved team is entry one.
Contest status
Open accepts eligible entries. Locked or completed contests remain visible to members but cannot accept another team.
After this step
The created contest is highlighted with one of four entries and a generated invite code.
5Open standingsOpen live standings and confirm the creator's entered team.
Live standings
The count shows entered teams against capacity. Points and ranks update after synchronized scoring batches.
Ranking
Teams are ordered by points and equal points share the same dense rank; the signed-in player's row is highlighted as Your team.
Privacy-safe rows
The response returns an opaque presentation key, redacted team display name, points, rank, and the viewer marker. Account IDs, saved-team IDs, phone numbers, and invite codes are not exposed.
After this step
The participant-safe standings show the creator's team, rank, and points.

Expected result

A private contest is created with the selected saved team, a generated synthetic invite code, and the creator in the standings.
